While studying at Parsons, Daisy delved into the history of traditional Chinese fashion and its intersection with subcultures. As a member of the growing Asian community in the US, she observed a lack of representation in the fashion industry. It was this stagnant state of affairs that propelled Daisy to establish DÀWÁNG, with the aim of celebrating and representing a modern Asian aesthetic.

The vision behind DÀWÁNG is to act as a cultural bridge, allowing individuals from diverse backgrounds to appreciate and learn about Asian and Chinese aesthetics. Moreover, DÀWÁNG strives to make these aesthetics more accessible by introducing lifestyle pieces that incorporate minimalist details inspired by modern Chinese culture.

DÀWÁNG’s reinterpretation of the traditional qipao silhouette exemplifies their commitment to a contemporary relaxed look. No longer confined to formal occasions and heels, the revamped qipao can now be effortlessly paired with sneakers. By incorporating brocade textiles from traditional costumes into modern clothing, Daisy aims to challenge preconceived notions about the use of brocade in fashion and contribute to the revival of the brocade industry in China.

When asked about the biggest challenge DÀWÁNG faced since its inception, Daisy candidly admitted that the entrepreneurial aspect caught her off guard. Although confident in her designs and their representation of cultural heritage, she realized the importance of marketing, public relations, and other business aspects that she had not previously explored. Determined to overcome this obstacle, Daisy returned to school and obtained her master's degree in Fashion Merchandising and Retail Management from LIM College.

Daisy's motivation stems from her deep sense of pride in her Asian identity. Throughout her academic journey, she developed a profound appreciation for Chinese history, art aesthetics, and daily life in past generations. This rich tapestry of cultural heritage instills a sense of pride in Daisy, inspiring her to share the modern interpretation of Chinese aesthetics without involving politics or external influences. She explains, "I want people to know that whatever their assumption is, is actually a very small part of what we represent. It’s what motives me, to spread the word out, for people to know the modern version of the Chinese aesthetics without mixing with any politics or anything. Just to celebrate the aesthetics on its own...We want to offer you little elements and items that represent modern Chinese for you to incorporate into your lifestyle, for you to piece together and show off your own look."
